"Regents Court"

November 30, 1999

For something different, try this boutique hotel in one of Sydney's funkiest neighbourhoods. Built in 1926 as gentlemen's apartments, this Edwardian-style townhouse was taken over by the McMahon family 20 years ago. Their painstaking renovation yielded 30 modern suites, each with a smart kitchenette and sleek decor. Close your door and you'd never suspect you were in Kings Cross, historically Sydney's most raffish district.

For breakfast, the family will direct you to Dov or the Yellow House, each an excellent local café. Or you might consider Fratelli Paradiso, one of our favourites, on nearby Challis Avenue. Regular guests include artists from productions at the Sydney Opera House, as well as some leading regional winemakers. We recommend an evening on the hotel's roof garden, to be spent sipping wine from the extensive list while enjoying a private barbecue. The views are fabulous.
